A water network rarely fails all at once. It fails one pump seal, one blower bearing, one motor at a time, often at a remote site, often at night. For Australian utilities managing assets spread across vast distances, catching those failures early is the difference between a planned repair and a service interruption.
That is the problem Groundup.ai was built to solve. In September 2026, Groundup.ai joined the Australian Water Association (AWA) as a Silver member, extending its Physical AI and Cognitive Maintenance platform into Australia's water and infrastructure sectors.
Most utilities already collect condition data. The harder step is turning that data into a confident decision about what to fix, and when. Groundup.ai's Cognitive Maintenance platform listens to machines through sound, vibration and thermal signals. It compares those signals against the Groundup.aiTM Asset Library, built from real-world machine behaviour, to identify anomalies, diagnose the likely root cause and recommend the maintenance action.
The approach follows three steps:
Groundup.ai's AWA membership follows its win of an open tender with PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency, to bring Cognitive Maintenance to Singapore's water infrastructure. Read about the PUB S4M tender.
That experience transfers directly to Australia. Pump stations, treatment plants and wastewater networks share the same core assets and many of the same failure modes, whether they sit in Singapore or regional Victoria.
Joining the AWA connects Groundup.ai directly with the engineers, operators, and asset leaders keeping Australia’s essential water services running. Through active industry collaboration and shared domain knowledge, the goal is to help local utilities transition from noisy alarm thresholds to high-confidence predictive reliability.
"Water utilities don't need more alarms; they need clear, reliable answers on which asset is failing, why, and how long they have to fix it," said Leon Lim, CEO and Co-Founder of Groundup.ai. "Having proven our multi-modal Cognitive Maintenance model on mission-critical water infrastructure with PUB in Singapore, joining the AWA is a natural step. We look forward to working alongside Australian operators to eliminate unplanned downtime across their most remote and demanding networks."
